Three local institutions, Waubonsee Community College, Moraine Valley Community College, and Milwaukee Area Technical College, sent students to the Route 66 Raceway, home of the NHRA Gerber Collision & Glass Route 66 Nationals drag races. A unique career networking event organized by the Mopar Career Automotive Program (CAP) will be attended by the colleges. Mopar CAP offers a program that trains students for a variety of vocations in the automotive industry through partnerships with 100 universities and technical colleges across the US.
“The Mopar CAP program is very crucial to the automotive industry,” said Stewart, a three-time NASCAR Cup winner at nearby Chicagoland Speedway. “There’s such a shortage of skilled, talented people in the workforce and the automotive industry that programs like Mopar CAP provide an opportunity for kids that want to be in this industry. It helps manufacturers and dealers have access to these students while they’re in school, so I feel like it’s a big advantage.”
Educational institutions can help students pursue a career in automotives and gain the necessary skills and foundational knowledge to work with some of the most well-known brands in the industry, such as Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, Ram, FIAT, and Alfa Romeo, by implementing the Mopar CAP curriculum. Mopar CAP offers students a competitive advantage by fusing real-world experience with classroom instruction from qualified teachers.
In addition to the Mopar CAP networking event, students had the opportunity to meet and talk with legendary drag racers Tony Stewart, Matt Hagan, and Leah Pruett of Tony Stewart Racing. Stewart, a former NASCAR, IndyCar, and USAC champion, is making his Top Fuel racing debut this year in the TSR Direct Connection Dodge/SRT dragster, while Hagan, the current NHRA Mission World Funny Car Champion, will compete at Route 66 Nationals Park in the TSR Direct Connection Dodge/SRT Hellcat in an attempt to win his third Route 66 Nationals.
Last month at the Chrysler Group National Technical Training Center in Auburn Hills, Michigan, Waubonsee Community College entered and advanced to the finals of the first-ever Mopar CAP Bracket Challenge. Guests had the chance to network with local Stellantis dealers who are hiring qualified personnel for their stores at the Mopar CAP leadership team meeting held at the Route 66 Raceway. Additionally, they can partake in lunch and trivia in the hospitality section of Tony Stewart Racing.
